Yeah, those are the problems with that bag. A smaller bag does carry less (boy, do I know, as someone who prefers small purses). But I felt that the tradeoff was worth it, especially compared to carrying a more conventional bag that was like a Victorian house strapped to my back.

I got the "She Rules" bag and tried it out on the last trip. Advantages: sleek looking, lightweight, fairly comfortable, not bulky, inexpensive. The top-loading computer compartment is very convenient when removing your computer at the airport security check, and the "papers" compartment is useful, too. Disadvantages: not a lot of room for extras, e.g. novels or sandwiches, though you can fit a stack of papers (in separate compartment from computer), and a power supply, a wallet, and a cell phone (in a 3rd compartment). Also, the back is not padded much-- it feels like you have a thinly-padded metal object against your back, which in fact you do.

I'm looking for one too! Although I'm compelled by these two bags, although they are still dorky. And kind of expensive.

Utne bag, horrible colour, but sustainable construction;

I'm still looking. I use a 15" MacBook Pro, so the Nicole is too small. =( But I'm totally with you on this, thanks for the post.

Wow. I just ordered the Nicole bag for $31.94 through ebags.com with the Google checkout discount. For that price, why not? Thanks, Kristin!

My laptop carry case is from Willow Design (Canada). The bags they make are just fantastic, but the company went out of business so they are only available used now. I highly recommend them if you are able to come across one.

It's not quite as nice as the Mobile Edge Paris looks, but the Nicole bag from the Sumdex "She Rules" line has a clean, professional profile in a nice light form. I came across it at Flax art supplies store here in San Francisco, and it is so much lighter than conventional laptop backpacks (and not at all dorky looking like most of them are).
