With each new paper you write, an unavoidable occurrence: that moment of panic when you run across a journal article you have never seen before, and realize that someone else has already published your results. And then after panicking, you read their article carefully, and realize it is not the same after all… and you are happy once more.

Wow, I’m glad other people have felt this too…I keep waiting for someone to scoop me, and when I come across a possiblity, I feel my stomach flip and my heart pound in a snap. And then I find something, something insignificant even, that makes me think my thing is different. So that’s fine, until I wonder what else is out there that I haven’t read yet…
